Flight Simulator SIG: Curtis Poree, e-mail:
dustoff_2@msn.com / Neil Stahfest, e-mail:
ncstahfest@msn.com.
The next meeting of the Flight Simulator S.I.G. will be on the
last Tuesday of the month, January 29, at 7:00 PM at the Pierce
County Lakewood Branch Library.
At the November meeting we distributed a copy of Burt Rutan's LongEz,
a design he created for home- built airplanes. At the January S.I.G.
Meeting we are going to look how airplanes are modeled in Microsoft
Flight Simulator. Using the LongEz, we'll look at how you can customize
an airplane by repainting it and how you can replace or modify engines
and propellers to change speed and performance. We'll compare the
performance results of some of these changes with the performance
figures provided in the LongEz Pilot's Manual. If you've ever wanted
to be a test pilot, here's your chance.
We'll also talk about some “tweaks” to help Flight
Simulator work better on your computer and I'll have another home-built
airplane file for you to copy and take home. If you enjoy flying
low and slow, landing on river banks and bush flying in general,
you're going to like this airplane. I'll also show you the web site
where you can buy the real thing (for about $50,000 including the
engine) and learn about builders' experiences.
Bring a blank CD or a flash drive. With the extensively modified
LongEz files you will need about 300 megabytes of free space.
Bring questions and tell us about your achievements. We welcome
people new to flight simulation and visitors at our meetings. If
you have friends who might be interested in flight simulation, invite
them to join us.

LINUX SIG: Joel Carlson, 253-549-2692; e-mail:
Fox7777@CarlsonCo.net,
The next Linux SIG meeting on February 19, 2008 will include configuring
the Grand Unified Boot Loader (GRUB) including booting an external
hard drive and setting up a Linux Home Theatre PC which combines
your computer functions and TV on one screen. We got into these
topics at last night's meeting and need to deal with them again
in more detail.
The goal is to have Linux high definition Tivo like TV together
with your computer functions on one screen perhaps operated be a
wireless keyboard/mouse. Any ideas for improving this would be appreciated.
